You find so many things on Google maps and Google earth. Sometimes, you can find alleged treasures. But here, it's much greater this time. According to controversial tabloid The Sun, it's about one of the most popular myth: Atlantis.
14:50 update: in fact, this is not Atlantis. We explain you why.
Here's what an aeronautic engineer named Bernie Bamford has found hanging around on Google Earth. This strange mix of submarine lines is located close to Morocco coasts:
So what's that? We asked the Terrimago blog editor, geograph Christophe Tuffery. Like us, he welcomes this news with skepticism, partly because of Sun's reputation. «You have to be careful. The widest rectangle that can be seen is 180 km x 130 km long. It may be some submarine cliffs.»
He doesn't exclude an attempt from Google to make buzz, and underlines multiple stories of alleged Ufos caught on google street view. You can see here an recent example.
Pictures have been shot in 2009. We'll ke on searching about this story and we'll keep you updated.
14:50 update: Google released a statement to explain about it. And the answer to the Atlantis mystery is very materialist. According to one of the firm's spokesmen, the lines are traces of the boat's travel when gathering data. To be clear, he has left no traces in the submarine ground. But the boat's presence has influenced the sonar. In fact, the boat has mapped its own trace.
15:20 update: in fact, when you look further, you can notice numerous traces in the submarine ground mapped by Google. Let's hyave a look here, on the esat side of our alleged Atlantis, where you discover this:
