Crisis maps #3: a french map reaching over a million visits

French news website Mediapart has started a social crisis map in France. Five month later, the map has reached more than a million visits. A performance that defintely worth including it in our crisis maps.
This map has two advantages. First it allows to see the growin number of layoffs in the businesses. Second, it allows to cover regularly a phenomenon - economic crisis - without undergoing a traditionnal problem in journalism: you talk much of a topic all week long, then the following week you stop covering it.
By looking at the car-shaped icons, you can notice the major impact of the crisis in the car industries. This is a very fine cover, that you can see in full screen with the complete version here [in this map behind, you only see the fifty last items].
As usual, just click on the icons to see what's happening.
